Hi Y’all! I am so happy to finally start my blog and share my past and future experiences with you. I have lived in Colorado my whole life and just moved to Houston, Texas to pursue my college dreams! I am at the University of Houston studying Hotel and Restaurant Management at the Honors College. Moving out of state for college has been one of the best experiences of my life!
Thank you for checking out my page, I can’t wait to share more with you ❤
Here are my top 5 tips that I have learned:
1. Determine your goals.
Evaluate what you need to do at this given time and how much time you have available. Being able to know what needs to be done will give you hope for the ending and keep you on task! I usually write everything I need to absolutely get done that time on a big sticky note and cross off as I go, then I make another list of things due this upcoming week.
2. Listen to music.
While living in a dorm there can be many distractions and you don’t want to go to the library. Or anywhere you are it is nice to tune out any excess noise. Choose what works best for you, during math I listen to indie pop music or songs with good vibes, while reading I google “rain and thunder” and listen to that while writing an essay I enjoy randomly shuffled tunes. I have a pair of Beats and they are the best for tuning out excess noise and really dialing in on your work.
3. Drink water while you’re working.
I know, drink water? Trust me it’ll help you stay focused and hydrated. Whether you are studying, taking quizzes, or writing essays taking a moment to drink some refreshing water will take your mind off the work for a moment and give you some energy!
4. Put your phone down.
I know this seems the most obvious, but it is for sure the most difficult. It can be easy to be writing an essay and look over and start scrolling through social media, texting, and then the next minute your 15 minutes deep into an episode of Friends on Netflix. Just put your phone down and put it on silent or do not disturb. I usually set a 20-minute timer and work for that 20 minutes, and then take a short break to catch up on any text messages or any fun social media updates! 5. Reward yourself.
Once you have reached a goal, or have done some work that you find sufficient reward yourself! Take a break and watch some of The Office on Netflix, do a few jumping jacks, or even just eat some Hershey’s chocolate. This will motivate you to keep going or make you feel great for the efforts you’ve put in.
There are so many other tips I have learned for all aspects of being in college… More posts coming soon! I hope you’re having a fantastic day, stay focused!
Love,
